Young Morrigan, the daughter of a local aristocrat, is full of innocence and life. Angus Wulfe is an eccentric and devious doctor who stalks her while he cultivates a plan to win her affection. Their two worlds collide in a grisly twist of fate when the Plague arrives on the shores of their town. With no cure in sight, and bodies dropping incrementally every day, the doctor uses his influence, along with his reputation in medical advances - stemming from his clandestine and macabre experiments-to manipulate Morrigan’s father. In return for her hand in marriage, the doctor would save her life. Clinging to life, Morrigan begins to feel a change. Has the doctor cured her, or did her father make a deal with the Devil?

This was an excellent book, from start to finish. I liked this book so much, I just had to write a recommendation. I haven't read something that drew me in as much as this in a long time.

I haven't read anything by Lisa Vasquez before, but now I will look up some more of her work. The writing is crisp, with details that really captures the time. The characters are all vividly drawn; there are no stock characters. You won't find yourself reading about evil just for the sake of evil.

I like a period piece from time to time, and this one really captured the time of the plague with great clarity. I was captured by the writing many times.

The main character is the antagonist, and he is a doctor of immense evil. But he has a story that makes sense, though it isn't fed to you all up front; you must read on to find out more about him and why he became who he became. I must say, Lisa does a great job of creating a monster.

The ending really got to me. I had to put the book down a number of times, but in a good way. My hat goes off to Lisa for writing such a wonderful piece of fiction. I hope she continues to write, as I will be looking forward to more of her work in the near future.

I would recommend this story to any of my friends who like horror. Give it a shot; you'll be happy you did.

The Unfleshed Tale of the Autopsic Bride edition by Lisa Vasquez AJ Brown Donelle Pardee Whiting Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A delightfully twisted dark tale from a rising talent in the horror genre! A well told and disturbing story, enjoyed the historical setting. The authors voice painted a vividly dark picture and her characters were deftly handled. I recommend this book for all horror fans it will not disappoint..
This book immediately immerses you into a world you can almost feel. Avid readers know exactly what I mean by this. Only a talented writer can bring a story to life like this author has. I highly recommend this book.
Lisa Vasquez offers that rare ability to delight and disgust in the most eloquent of manners. Love takes on many forms, and from the edge of a scalpel many delicate incisions and sutures form a landscape of maddening horror. Not since I read Mary Shelly’s Classic, Frankenstein, have I been so utterly obsessed with a tale.
The author pulls us through a tale of horror with a heart-stopping nastiness that will make your toes curl in pain for the victims. The scenes are set in old England, and the author sets them with precision. Dr. Angus's character is so twisted that the human consciousness will be pressed to comprehend such madness. Angus, a delicious unpredictable villain.

I've read many horror genre novels, and this one had me swiping pages on my app. With tangential storylines, the plot grips you from start to finish in an immersed world of evil.

Will be following this author for new releases.
Lisa Vasquez proves with her novel "The Unfleshed Tale of the Autopsic Bride" she is a writer of nightmarish vision and a new, poetic voice in today's horror genre. Her prose sings like a sonnet while driving the knife of dread ever further into her reader's imagination. In her villain, Angus Wulfe, Vasquez has created someone so dastardly and surgical in his malevolence he lives and breathes on the page. I also hope to see Wulfe again in another installment, if possible, as I was sorry to see the book come to a close. Wulfe is as terrifying in his polished yet sociopathic intent as Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter. "The Unfleshed" sets the standard for the modern horror novel, and raises the bar quite high!
This was an excellent read. Very creepy, uncomfortable, and shocking, with strong characters and interesting twists and turns.

I think the highlight of this book, for me, is a well-crafted villain. Angus Wulfe was a man who made my skin crawl from the very beginning. I loved to hate the guy!

The story was fast-paced, with awesome dialogue and beautiful scenery; the author is very artistic, with her characters, scenery, and dialogue. It dropped me right into the era of the Black Plague, and I was instantly connected with the characters and their world.

If I had one concern it would be tightening up the editing a touch, but it was certainly not enough to detract from the story. I loved this, and will be watching for more from Ms. Vasquez.
This is the first book of Lisa Vasquez's that I have read and I have to tell you that I am hooked!

Not only is the story deliciously horrifying, but Lisa's raw descriptiveness totally brings you into the story.

Here is how I loosely describe this story unrequited love on several different levels, murder and torture all during the time of the plague.

Like I said before, this was my first Lisa Vasquez book but it definitely won't be my last! I am a new fan!!!
